Technology Operation

Newster patented FRICTIONAL HEAT technology for the treatment of solid hospital potentially infectious waste based on high thermal treatment, without burning. The residue obtained is sterilized, odourless, finely shredded, dried and reduced in weight/ volume. The treatment principle is tested, patented, certified. It is the most valid alternative currently available to traditional disposing methods like incineration. The use of on-site technologies allows the remarkable reduction of the facilities’ costs for disposal, increases hygiene quality, improves the safety of the personnel, contributes to reducing produced waste quantity and also reduces the environmental impact to near zero in accordance with the trend of reduction of environmental emissions and risks arising from the transport of infectious waste. The NEWSTER® NW sterilizer is designed to treat Healthcare Risk Waste (HCRW) at atmospheric pressure and high temperature in a moist environment. The treatment process, including the grinding and the sterilization of the material, is completely automatic and carried out in the same vessel, which is hermetically sealed in slightly negative pressure. After loading Initially the rotor rotates slowly and grinds the material; the temperature increases. Temperature in the range of 00C to 1000C includes: the rotor increases speed, grinding to reduce the size of waste, collision and friction generate heat, the temperature rises faster till the evaporation phase. At that point the temperature remains steady till the humidity has evaporated. When the second phase finishes, the temperature increases again from 100C to 150C (±1 0 C). Then the mass of waste is cooled down with water until it reaches 95°C. The cycle duration is aprx. 35/40 minutes, depending on the humidity present in the waste to be treated. - The COVID-19 global pandemic has greatly influenced HCW both in volume and in mix. PPEs are treated by our machines without any problem. - The inactivation of bacterial flora, fungi , viruses , parasites and mycobacteria B. subtilis or G.stearothermophilus spores at 6 log 10 concentration and greater. - The sterilization efficiency meets the requirements of the STAAT level III criteria. - The whole shredding and sterilization process takes place in the same vessel. - The waste after grinding, shredding and sterilizing can not be identified. The final treated waste is dry, safe, sterilized and odourless. It can be stored for long periods and equated to the domestic waste - The device is totally suitable to all the climatic conditions of the earth (the tropical monsoon, temperate zone, plain, hills zone). - The cycle report is printed automatically Since 2021 Newster sterilizers are equipped with In-Sight 4.0 software for Preventive / Predictive Maintenance Plan with activity log. ; Operator and NW Sterilizer Records Environmental, administrative and security data filing ; Downloadable Digital System Register. Direct connection to hospital network is not required, a simple internet connection is sufficient. Authorizied Access is provided by password. NEWSTER SWT –SAFE WATER TREATMENT is a system for the disinfection of hospital waste water. It has been specially designed as a final mechanical treatment of waste water deriving from infectious-disease hospital wards. The system is based on an innovative process that uses a special macerator to Dispel all organic material and eventually grinds all other material in the waste water. The Newster SWT system is designed for on-site installation in public and private hospital facilities to meet the needs of hospital sewage disposal of small-sized hospitals and hospitals far from main urban areas lacking connection to sewage collection networks and purification systems.. The automatic cycle carries out the following stages : - Grinding of infective water - Separation of solid from liquid - Disinfection of infected liquids and final drainage to sewer - SWT is a barrier against the infection of under ground water and surface water - SWT is a computerized mechanical separator-scrubber for the treatment of potentially infective hospital wastewater. - SWT is pre-assembled and can be installed without structural work. It is deliverable In containers. - SWT is easily maintained and an operator is not necessary while it is in function - SWT is completely automatic, it is equipped with a remote control system of the functions and has 2 redundant work lines The disinfection tank is designed in order to guaranty a contact time of 30 minutes between the disinfectant agents and the wastewater for the disinfection of the wastewater. When the time is up the wastewater is discharged into the sewer . Newster OZOTHERAPY uses an ozone-based process, which involves the generation of hydroxyl radicals, very powerful non-toxic oxidants that react rapidly with most organic compounds. The plant is fully automated and equipped with remote control. The on-board programmable logic controller (PLC) can be connected to an internet cloud service through a GSM router to carry out remote control of functions from a PC and monitor cycle statistics. NEWSTER® OZOTHERAPY technology allows to treat chemical fluid waste in order to permit the introduction of the relative liquid component into biological waste water treatment plant “WWTP”, with an organic and inorganic pollutants removal greater than 90% and a complete removal of biologic hazards. MAXIMUM CAPACITY 200 L/DAY.

Outputs

Recoverable and unrecoverable products, Average ratio, the average quantity of power output (kW/kg) and Environmental emissions.

Outputs Details
What are recoverable products (What does the technology make or do)? Regarding our technology for solid HCW, the treated residue can be sent to waste-to-energy plants thanks to its high calorific value due to large amount of plastic contained. In African countries the residue is used in the preparation of cement, in Australia for acoutistic isolation and in Rep. San Marino UnI thermal insulation.Regarding waste water and medical laboratory fluid waste they are treated to be discharged into the sewage system .
What are unrecoverable waste products (waste material after processing)? All of our residue is recoverable with appropriate equipment
Average ratio – input v recoverable (%) According to local legislation it is possible to reach 100%
If producing power, average quantity of power output (kW/kg) Calorific value : kJ/kg 22542
Environmental emissions (emissions to air or discharges to water or soil) Environmental emissions (emissions to air or discharges to water or soil)

Staff requirements and training How many staff are required to operate the technology and what skill level required?
How many staff are required to operate the technology? One person is necessary and will be trained by local distributor or Newster directly. As COVID-19 global pandemic has greatly influnced travelling Newster has adopted an e-learning platform for operator and hospital staff training.
What skill level is required to operate the technology? Low(on-job training - i.e warden
Is training or other support provided for: Operations and Maintenance
Could you please elaborate by what means Is training or other support provided? (e.g., technical support, onsite training, an online package, or training manual) Previous to COVID-19 pandemic training of operator and hospital staff took place dutring the installation and start-up of the machine. Since mid 2020 we have focused on online training, providing our distributors with an e-learning platform for operators and hospital staff ( hospital staff training includes how to separate waste at source in order to separate hazardous from non-hazardous waste so as to treat only the hazardous, which is about 15% of the total amount generated at hospitals thus lowering costs for hospitals )
What general maintenance is required and to what skill level? Regarding skill level : operators are trained to carry out ordinary maintainance MAINTENANCE PROGRAM FOR NEWSTER® STERILZER Every day • Discharge the water from the pipe between machine and filter group • Clean the cell and circular filter on the lid • Check the central screw of the blade support; be sure it is tight Every month • Spraying system of the cell and demister: dismount the spray nozzles and clean • Temperature sensor: check the wear and change if necessary • Discharge of demister: open the demister and clean with acid for hydraulic pipe • Air pipe: check if the pipes loose air • Circular filter of the lid: clean the filter with compressed air and if necessary change • Lid gasket: check and if necessary change • Blades: check and if necessary change Every 3 months • Fixed blade: check the wear and in case regulate the position • External fan: check the fan • Belt: check and if necessary regulate • Electric valves: if necessary clean • Vertical blades: check and change if necessary • Temperature sensor of external surface of the cell: check Every 6 months • Carbon filter: Replace Every year • Absolute filter: Replace • Bearings: check • Proof of the machine second UNI 10384/94 first part
