News - Jun 4, 2025 New Publications: Data Collection Templates for Composting and Sustainable Financing

To support data collection for sustainable waste management practices, two data collection template resources—the Composting Data Collection and Monitoring Template, and the Sustainable Financing Data Collection and Scheme Fee Calculation Template have been published online.

Both templates are downloadable Excel tools designed to be customisable to support data collection and monitoring of resource recovery projects relevant to members.

What is the Composting Template?

The Composting Data Collection and Monitoring Template is designed to support users to record and monitor organics material diversion and materials throughput in compost operations and monitor composting processes – monitoring performance of different “recipes” (carbon/nitrogen balance) and recording temperature to understand pasteurisation. The template helps to track essential metrics to fulfill with regional data collection requirements and be aligned with best-practise industry standards.

What is the Sustainable Financing Template?

The Sustainable Financing Data Collection and Scheme Fee Calculation Template is designed to support users of a sustainable financing system (Container Deposit, Product Stewardship, Advanced Recovery Fee etc).

The template can be used during the scheme design to understand throughput to the scheme and calculate scheme expenses – to determine likely levels of the handling and administrative fees.

It can also be used during scheme operation to track scheme performance against targets (items imported v collected v exported) and track financial performance to understand if handling and administrative fees re sufficient.

The template helps to track essential metrics to fulfill with regional data collection requirements and be aligned with best-practise industry standards.
